Leading with Science.™

Living here in the Midwest, its easy to overlook the world-class talent that live and work in our midst. Bill Chapman, Principal Atmospheric Scientist at Agrible™, is no exception.

Chapman is also a professor at the University of Illinois in the Departments of Atmospheric Sciences and Computer Science, which is ranked as one of the top 5 Computer Science departments in the world. The course Chapman teaches (currently ranked as the second best course by students at the University of Illinois) fills up within minutes of registration opening each semester.

Students in Chapman's course are exposed to the challenge of feeding a rapidly-growing global population and the associated environmental and social problems this entails. Providing students computational solutions to big weather, agronomy, and food issues strikes a cord with both midwestern and international students.

In his role as a research scientist at the University of Illinois, Chapman has been the principal investigator on many awards from the National Science Foundation and NASA. His research won the prestigious Chancellor's Award for Academic Excellence awarded to the top contributing University of Illinois staff members each year. Chapman maintains several popular climate-related outreach websites and interacts with interested public on environmental issues daily. His work and research have been featured on NBC Nightly News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and The Huffington Post.

At Agrible™, Chapman is both a co-founder and part of the weather team that develops sophisticated models to provide information on yield projections, agricultural and logistical operations, and responsible spraying practices. Information like this, conveyed in an understandable and useful way, helps growers to make profitable, responsible, and sustainable decisions. Agrible™ recently announced that the company has joined on as an associate member of Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture. Field to Market is working to unite the agricultural supply chain through the defining, measuring, and advancing of sustainable practices in food, fiber, and fuel production in the United States. The Alliance works in cooperation with grower organizations, academia, conservation groups, public sector partners and leading companies. Chapman and the Agrible™ team will work to help catalyze opportunities for continuous improvement in productivity, environmental quality, and human well-being across the agricultural value chain.

When he is not "in the office," Chapman stays very active with his family of 6 children ranging in age from 11 to 21. He enjoys playing golf, conversations with his family, and watching his children grow and perform in sports and the arts.
